PG Act is up for a Vote in the TX House

Posted: April 3, 2019 in Uncategorized

Good morning.  CSHB 1311, the House bill to continue the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists and P.G. licensure has made its way through the House Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee and the Calendars Committee. It goes to the House floor for a vote Thursday.  It is very important that you contact your Representative today (see below) if you have not done so already.  We have a fight on our hands so every vote counts.

We generally have the support of House Democrats thanks to Representative Senfronia Thompson’s sponsorship. However, the Texas Public Policy Foundation and the Texas Conservative Coalition have come out against us and they are trying to influence the Republican members to vote against CSHB 1311.

What can we do about this? It is extremely important that you contact your Texas House Representative as soon as possible today. Let her/him know that you support the bill and ask for his/her support. A call or e-mail is fine.

Fill in your address on the form at the following link and click on the Find button to determine who your State House Representative is. Who Represents Me?

Your State Rep is the second link from the top on the left side of the page. Click on this box to go to their State House of Representatives page. You can e-mail them by clicking the e-mail link. Please include the following points in your e-mail, or phone call:

  1. I am your constituent and I support CSHB 1311.
  2. Ask him/her to vote yes on CSHB 1311.
  3. Geoscience is a profession that requires several years of education and experience to master.
  4. Licensed Professional Geoscientists (P.G.s) play a vital role in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all Texans.
  5. The Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists licensing process assures both regulators and the public that licensed P.G.s meet a suitable standard of competence and capability for the important work with which they are entrusted.

Again, it is very important that you contact your Rep today. It would be helpful if friends and family do the same.
